Category:

Rifaximin Tablets come with the branding “Mixafir-550” and is used to treat bacterial diarrhoea that may be associated with travellers, specifically the E. coli bacteria infection, hepatic encephalopathy, and IBS-D. Traveller’s diarrhoea is an infection, in which there is passage of watery stools. This disease results in impaired brain function where the liver is injured and cannot effectively filter toxins from the bloodstream. Irritable bowel syndrome is a functional bowel disorder that involves the large intestine.

Rifaximin Tablets have ‘Rifaximin’, which acts by binding itself to the bowel and thereby arresting the further spread of infections due to the depletion of friendly bacteria in the intestinal tracts. In this way, it has a positive effect on reduction of the abdominal pain and diarrhoea. It is contraindicated in severe diarrhoea, fever blood stool and other diarrheal conditions due to organisms other than E. coli.
